You’ve visualized, recited your affirmations, looked in the mirror and told yourself how awesome you are, and performed almost all the manifestation rituals and routines imaginable… but nothing has worked! Sound familiar? You aren’t alone. These surface-level techniques sometimes fall flat because underneath it all, we carry subconscious beliefs that undercut the changes we’d like to make in our lives. If your core beliefs aren’t solid, affirmations can feel empty and pointless.
Affirmations are designed to light up negative thoughts so you can see them and let them go. Your affirmations can help you ‘feel’ as happy and as loving as you want, but if you don’t believe you’ll actually have a fulfilling and satisfying life, you won’t. So let’s dive into beliefs and how to harness the power of your mind to fuel your beliefs.
We begin with the overarching idea that it’s imperative to feed your mind with good things because your thoughts frame and create your beliefs and experiences. Recognize that you have positive and negative thoughts. The more you feed your mind with positive thoughts and actions like gratitude, kindness, empathy, compassion, peace, love, joy, humility, generosity, etc., the more positivity you create and attract. As you continue to have positive thoughts that are aligned with your beliefs, you strengthen them.
Here are four simple recommendations we have for nurturing these positive thoughts and strengthening your belief in YOU:
Unleash the Unhealthy: In order to practice gratitude, kindness, empathy, compassion, peace, love, joy, humility, generosity, it’s critical to take a look at situations, relationships and habits that are contributing to negative self talk and misaligned with your values. The more you can recognize and let go of the unhealthy, the more you’ll feel in sync with your beliefs and stay on track for reaping the positive benefits of solid beliefs.
Change The Station: So much of the daily infusion on our thoughts comes from the people, situations and environments surrounding us. So if you’re in a place where daily negativity is unavoidable, an outside influence that you can consistently control and tap into might be hugely beneficial. Even if things are generally positive, this type of resource can be helpful. We’re talking about fueling your mind with a great audio CD or podcast with an inspiring, positive or leadership-focused message. What if 50% of the time that you were in the car you listened to an inspirational message or something that feeds your mind with growth and positivity and the other 50% of the time you feed it with the music you enjoy? Try implementing this change for the next 21 days to see how this can help shift your beliefs to the positive.
Nobody Is Perfect: While focusing on the negatives is rarely as helpful as focusing on the positives, there is importance in remembering that nobody is perfect and nobody. Everybody is suffering through their own challenges, whether you are close enough to know it or not. So give yourself a break, practice self love (see our October blog), welcome failure because it means you’re trying, and go for resiliency, not perfection.
